Google has officially released the first public beta of Android 15, allowing Pixel device owners to test the upcoming version of its mobile operating system. Dave Burke, Vice President of Engineering, announced on the Android Developers Blog that this move marks a significant milestone in refining features and enhancing stability, paving the way for developers and early adopters to experience the updates.

The rollout schedule for Android 15 includes Developer Previews in February and March 2024, followed by beta versions from April to July 2024, with an official launch anticipated around August or September 2024. To participate in the beta, users must have a compatible Google device, such as Pixel 8, Pixel 7 series, Pixel 6 series, Pixel 5a, Pixel Fold, or Pixel Tablet, and be logged into their Google account.

The beta versions, primarily aimed at developers, introduce subtle enhancements like smoother NFC experiences, the ability to save fingerprints in apps, new language settings options, and expanded full-screen app functionality. Notably, native support for app archiving allows temporary removal of unused apps while preserving data, and improved braille display management is also featured.

While these preliminary versions aim to boost performance and security, the most significant features of Android 15 will likely be unveiled at Google’s I/O developers conference on May 14, 2024. We will keep you updated on these developments on the mobile.club blog.
