This June, Apple revealed at WWDC a groundbreaking update with iOS 18, enhancing AI integration, unprecedented personalization, and automation that could permanently change how we use our smartphones. The update is compatible with a wide range of iPhones from iPhone SE (2nd generation) to the latest iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, the newer the iPhone, the smoother the update implementation.

To install the iOS 18 beta, users need to activate developer mode, navigate to ‘Settings > General > Software Update’, select ‘iOS 18 Developer Beta’, and tap ‘Install’. This update promises a more personalized iPhone experience, competing closely with Android’s customization capabilities.

Key features of iOS 18 include a redesigned home screen layout, lock screen customization, a new control center, and major updates to the Photos and Mail apps enhancing user interaction and efficiency. Privacy enhancements and third-party accessory connectivity are also improved, ensuring better data protection and device integration.

Furthermore, Apple is set to introduce ‘Apple Intelligence’, a robust AI capable of text summarization, prioritized notifications, and enhanced image handling directly in apps, leveraging Core ML for seamless integration while maintaining privacy with Private Cloud Compute.

Despite criticisms of falling behind Android in AI development, Apple is making significant strides to catch up with its competitors, potentially surpassing them with the advanced features in iOS 18. This update is expected to roll out in North America by September 2024, with other regions following later.
